This painting was created originally to represent an image society rarely shows and that is black fatherhood. Often times when you here the word generation within the black community it’s referring to curses. So instead I painted this moment in time to capture a generational moment. Originally this piece was designed and in contention for Target’s HBCU design challenge, but as I began sketch and paint I realized it meant so much more than a contest. Art imitates real life just as real life imitates Art, the sheer presence of a father can and does make all the difference.
